People who are blind or visually impaired often do not partake in daily exercise. In many cases they are house bound without adequate means of transportation, or even a desire to get out of the home.

For the most part, Medical care professionals do not adequately acknowledge and provide for the specialized needs or services of patients who are blind or visually impaired.

History of Team BSS

In 2010, through an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, (ARRA) administered through the Community Action Partnership, BSS formally transitioned Team BSS to a fully funded program.

The overall goal of Team BSS was to successfully train thirty individuals who are blind or visually impaired to participate in at least two competitive walks during the program term. February 1, 2010 through September 30, 2010.

In February of 2012, through financial support from Molina Health Care and the Riverside Community Health Foundation, BSS implemented Phase Two of its Team BSS Initiative. A total of twenty nine individuals enrolled in this ten month program that ended on January 31, 2013.
