Employment Preparation Department
The major objective of Employment Preparation Services at BSS is to assist our clients to make well informed choices which will open pathways to more lucrative employment opportunities.
Program Description
Employment Preparation is designed to assist persons who are blind or visually impaired to identify, obtain and maintain employment. Our goal is to strengthen the abilities of our clients according to their vocational, social, psychological and medical needs. Services are divided into two segments that assist job-ready clients to obtain and retain competitive employment in their field of interest.
A. Employment Preparation
Employment Preparation Services prepare clients for job seeking activities. This part of the program will offer supportive services that will increase chances of achieving gainful employment. Clients will be expected to attend class three hours per day for at least three days a week on an on-going basis.

B. Job Development and Placement
Job Development and Placement Services identify specific job openings which are appropriate for each client based upon their documented work experience and/or educational background. Following satisfactory completion of the Employment Preparation segment, clients may be eligible to enter the job development and placement portion of the program. Exploration of vocational objectives and opportunities will be a joint effort between the client and BSS staff. Clients will be provided with help in the selection of the appropriate job according to their needs, level of skill, and desired vocational goals.

Setting Up Interviews
Arranging transportation to and from potential employment sites
This portion of the program will be approached in an assertive manner to acquire gainful employment for our blind or visually impaired consumers. These services are geared to increase the DOR Consumer's chances of obtaining and maintaining employment consistent with their preferences and Individual Plan for Employment.
